Ailey Extension’s annual World Dance Performance Workshops kick off the week of April 9th, bringing together all communities to celebrate and share rich heritages from around the world. For eight weeks, students will be immersed in traditional dance styles and cultural rhythms through weekly two-hour workshops taught by renowned Ailey Extension instructors.
To celebrate Women’s HERstory Month in March, Ailey Extension presents two workshops to promote health awareness and empower women of all shapes and sizes. On Tuesday, March 14th at 7 p.m. three of Ailey Extension’s top dance and fitness instructors – Sarita Allen, Karen Arceneaux, and Sarah Rozek – lead a Women’s Health and Fitness Day workshop. On Saturday, March 25th at 7 p.m. Pretty BIG Movement’s founder and CEO Akira Armstrong instructs the Move Your Curves workshop designed for voluptuous, plus-sized women.
Ailey II makes its NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts debut March 29 – April 2, sharing two programs of premieres and returning favorites with audiences during its annual New York season. The 12 young dancers return to the New York stage after a 25-city world tour to share their artistry and prowess in an expansive repertory by emerging and established choreographers, including Leila Da Rocha, Jean Emile, Jae Man Joo, Ray Mercer, Bridget L. Moore, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater member Jamar Roberts, and former Ailey dancer Marcus Jarrell Willis
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will share its unparalleled artistry with audiences from coast to coast during a 19-city U.S. tour starting this Friday, February 3rd, in Philadelphia, PA. On February 7th, a week-long engagement at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. kicks off as part of JFKC: A Centennial Celebration of John F. Kennedy, the Kennedy Center’s yearlong programming initiative marking the 100th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s birth and legacy.
On Tuesday, February 7th, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s 18th Annual Washington, D.C. Opening Night Gala Benefit will celebrate the opening of its yearly week-long engagement at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. After the 7pm opening program at the Opera House featuring performances celebrating the birth centennials of jazz legends Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie and Alvin Ailey’s always inspiring masterpiece Revelations, Artistic Director Robert Battle and Ailey’s renowned dancers will join guests for supper and dancing on the Terrace Level of the Kennedy Center.
Their moves are legendary, and not starting this year you’ll get to celebrate the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater all year round. Destination Dance is a new initiative that will bring programming to some Atlanta’s premiere cultural organizations.
A long-beloved member of the Atlanta community with a 41-year history in the city, Ailey announces programming for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s performances at the Fabulous Fox Theatre February 15 – 19, 2017, as well as for the pilot year of Ailey’s “Destination Dance” partnership initiative in Atlanta. Destination Dance will allow Ailey to better serve the Atlanta community by deepening its commitment to the city’s cultural organizations – including Atlanta Ballet and Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education, AREA, Dance Canvas, ELEVATE, the Fox Theatre, Spelman College, the Center for Civil and Human Rights, Rialto Center for the Arts, and High Museum of Art – through diverse year-round programming, ranging from performances to dance classes to educational programs for students.
Today, Artistic Director Robert Battle announces programming for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s return by popular demand to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County for five performances from Thursday, February 23 through Sunday, February 26, 2017. In conjunction with his visit home to Miami this week, he is also pleased to share news about the opportunity for local students to attend The Ailey School in New York City, thanks to the establishment of two Ailey Awakening Summer Intensive Scholarships supported by the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust.
This Friday, September 16th, Ailey II will embark on a 25-city world tour continuing through March 18th (complete schedule on page two). The tour will take the superb 12-member ensemble to more than 20 cities across the U.S., from Rochester, NY to Kansas City, MO to Honolulu, HI.
December 12, 2016 – On the heels of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s joyous New York City Center holiday season, Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison will teach an exclusive Ailey Classics Workshop on Thursday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. to celebrate what would’ve been Alvin Ailey’s 86th birthday. Ms. Jamison will impart Ailey’s signature style, which changed the perception of American dance around the world, showing audiences that dance can truly be an expression of the spirit.
