AILEY Gears Up For "Let's Move: A National Dance Day Celebration" With Museum of the City of New York

(NEW YORK) September 16, 2025 – In celebration of National Dance Day this Saturday, September 20, AILEY is making it easy for people from all ages and backgrounds to make dance an integral part of their lives by seeing an upcoming performance and getting moving with elite NYC instructors. This weekend people of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to join Ailey Extension instructors at Museum of the City of New York for two free dance workshops, get children moving at the Ailey Studios during the start of the Fall Kids & Teens session, and make plans to try a free class of their choice when they purchase tickets to see Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater during the Company’s annual holiday season engagement at New York City Center.

Ailey Extension Kicks Off Fall Kids And Teens Session With Free Open House Sampling Ballet, Hip-Hop, And Contemporary Jazz Techniques

(NEW YORK) August 11, 2022 – Ailey Extension is opening its doors to young aspiring dancers for the return of the Fall Kids & Teens Sunday dance series from September 18-December 11. This year ahead of the official start of the 12-week session, children ages 5-17 are invited to get moving and grooving one week early while sampling ballet, hip-hop, and contemporary jazz classes at a free open house on September 11. All Kids & Teens programming takes place in person at the Joan Weill Center for Dance – NYC’s largest building dedicated to dance – where students of all ages and experience levels can get down while improving their technique with the help of Ailey Extension’s elite instructors.

Ailey Extension Welcomes Kids And Teens To Get Moving During Physical Fitness Month With Special Workshops And The Launch Of The Summer Kids & Teens Sunday Dance Series

(NEW YORK) April 28, 2022 – Ailey Extension is encouraging New York City’s young dancers to get moving during National Physical Fitness Month with the return of in-studio Kids & Teens classes and special workshops. Starting in May, fully vaccinated kids (ages 5-11) and teens (ages 12-17) can enjoy class in Ailey’s studios at the Joan Weill Center for Dance – NYC’s largest building dedicated to dance – to have fun while learning hip-hop, ballet, West African, contemporary and Broadway Jazz in a welcoming and nurturing environment with their peers. Classes for kids and teens are designed to help children of all experience levels explore movement and learn the healthy habit of exercising at an early age.

New York, NY – September 2, 2021 – Ailey Extension will celebrate National Dance Day by welcoming New York City area dancers back to the studios to experience the vibrant energy of its “real classes for real people” in person starting Saturday, September 18. For the first time since March 2020, New Yorkers of all experience levels and backgrounds are invited to join in the dance at the Joan Weill Center for Dance – NYC’s largest building dedicated to dance – with their favorite instructors, inspiring guest artists and esteemed musicians. An updated schedule of classes allows fully vaccinated New Yorkers ages 12+ to gather in small groups on Saturdays and Sundays. Virtual class options remain available seven days a week for those 16+ who cannot join in-studio and for children ages 5-11 under the Kids & Teens Sunday Dance Series.

Fit And Fabulous Fun During National Physical Fitness Month With Virtual Classes and Special Workshops At Ailey Extension

New York, NY – May 5, 2021 – Ailey Extension has kicked off National Physical Fitness Month with an invitation for people around the world to have fun being fit and fabulous during in an array of virtual classes and special workshops. During the month of May, students are encouraged to keep dancing and experience the physical and mental benefits of dance, including improved strength and flexibility, coordination, endurance, and decreased stress. All are welcome to celebrate by moving and grooving with popular instructors during a Hip-Hop Workshop on Thursday, May 6, a special Mother’s Day weekend BellydanceBURN workshop on Saturday, May 8; a Kids & Teens West African Workshop on Saturday, May 15, and a NY Style Mambo Workshop on Saturday, May 22. Using dance as a vehicle for joy and hope during a time of unprecedented challenges and separation, the presentations will advance the Ailey organization’s online initiatives that have inspired and enlightened over 12 million people in 121 countries over the past year, including a December holiday season featuring several dance film premieres.

Spring Into Dance With Ailey Extension's Special Virtual Workshops As Well As New Kids & Teens Online Session

(New York) March 9, 2021 – Ailey Extension is dancing into Spring with fresh new weekend workshops that introduce adults, children, and teens to new dance techniques. On Saturday, March 20, adult students are invited to mark the first day of Spring in three unique workshops: Absolute Beginner Ballet focusing on fundamental vocabulary, a Horton masterclass teaching the technique seen in many of Alvin Ailey’s classic works, and an Afro-Cuban dance experience complete with live music. Seasonal festivities continue a week later with a cheerful Masala Bhangra workshop celebrating the Hindu Spring “festival of colors”. Young dancers ages 5-17 are welcome to join in the dance during the Kids & Teens Online Spring session (March 1 – May 2) which features age-appropriate classes – such as a new Junior Broadway Jazz for tweens and Teen Contemporary – that allow students to build confidence as they work on their dance skills. Each of these new virtual workshops and classes are open to students of all levels, offering experienced and beginner dancers around the world the chance to learn from elite instructors.

Dancers as young as 5 years old have the chance to learn from in-demand instructors as they develop coordination and individuality with their movements. The Spring 2021 eight-week session – which runs from March 1 to May 2 – includes hip-hop classes for all ages, ballet for children ages 5-12, Horton for pre-teens, and introduces two new class options – Teen Contemporary and Junior Broadway Jazz.
