The Ailey Extension , a beacon of dance and fitness for a diverse array of people in New York City and beyond, kicked off its 10th Anniversary celebration in April. The festivities continue in May with two special Mother’s Day Classes, a new West African Dance class, and more.
The Ailey Extension celebrates 10 years of dance and fitness classes this April with a variety of new classes and special events. Since its inception in 2005, the Ailey Extension has fulfilled Alvin Ailey’s life‐long commitment of bringing dance to everyone by offering “real classes for real people.”
The world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to the New York City Center stage from December 3, 2014 – January 4, 2015 for a 39-performance engagement that has become a joyous holiday tradition.
Ailey celebrates NYC Dance Week - a city-wide 10 day festival from June 19th through 28th that celebrates the joy and benefits of dance – with free class offers at The Ailey Extension and performances by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s amazing dancers at Lincoln Center that have been called “pure exhilaration.”
In celebration of Heart Health Month, Valentine's Day, and the 2014 Carnaval; in February the Ailey Extension will offer a new technique, and a series of one-day only dance and fitness workshops taught by world renowned instructors, designed to move and excite participants of all levels and backgrounds.
In conjunction with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's current holiday season at New York City Center, the celebration of the new year, and the January 5th season finale on what would have been Alvin Ailey's 83rd birthday; The Ailey Extension will offer special programs now through January.
The Ailey Extension offers fans nationwide the chance to take the magic of dance from the stage to the studio with a FREE class at Ailey’s home – The Joan Weill Center for Dance. This special “Ticket to Dance” promotion offers a complimentary Ailey Extension class with a ticket stub from any Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater or Ailey II performance around the nation, including the Company’s New York City Center season running December 4th – January 5th.
The Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation today announced that after an international search to identify a new Executive Director, the Board of Trustees has chosen to continue the Ailey tradition of passing on leadership from one generation of the organization to the next by naming Bennett Rink to the post.
