NEW YORK – August 4, 2016 — Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Center’s Principal Dance Company, returns to the New York City Center stage from November 30th – December 31st, 2016. In his sixth season as Artistic Director, Robert Battle leads Ailey’s 32 renowned dancers during this annual five-week engagement, which has become a joyous holiday tradition.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, recognized by U.S. Congress as “a vital American cultural ambassador to the world,” returns to the United Kingdom, Lausanne, Switzerland, and Copenhagen, Denmark to perform a dozen ballets from September 6 – October 30. Robert Battle will lead Ailey through the UK (September 9 – October 19) for the first time since becoming Artistic Director, including the Company’s inaugural visits to Southampton and Canterbury, England.
AileyCamp is expanding to serve more than 1,000 young people in ten cities across the country. From New York all the way to the newest camp in Seattle, WA, AileyCamps will guide students to believe in their unlimited potential.
Ailey celebrates NYC Dance Week – a citywide festival from June 16th – 25th that promotes the joy and diversity of dance – with FREE class offers at The Ailey Extension and inspiring performances by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at Lincoln Center, through June 19th. The celebration kicks off at the Ailey Studios – home to the incomparable Ailey dancers – on Thursday, June 16th and continues through Saturday, June 25th, with several free classes each day for new students. NYC Dance Week also launches GingaFlex, a brand new fitness technique based on the Brazilian dance/martials arts form capoeira, on Saturday, June 18th at 12pm.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, beloved as one of the world’s most popular dance companies, will return to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts for a two-week 15-performance engagement at the David H. Koch Theater June 8th – 19th, 2016. Led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, the dancers will perform in a diverse repertory, including the world premieres of Deep, by acclaimed Italian choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti, and Untitled America: Second Movement, the second work in a three-part suite by MacArthur “Genius” Kyle Abraham.
The world renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to Lincoln Center from June 8 – 19, and New Yorkers have a unique opportunity to join in the dance. The Ailey Extension announces the return of “Ticket to Dance,” which allows audience members to try their first class FREE with a performance ticket (returning students receive a free class with the purchase of a 10-class card).
Ailey II’s “indefatigable, virtuosic, and relentlessly sexy” dancers (Los Angeles Times) return to the Ailey Citigroup Theater with two programs of premieres and returning audience favorites. The upcoming New York season comes on the heels of the company’s 26-city tour.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, beloved as one of the world’s most popular dance companies, will share its inspiring artistry with audiences during a 20-city North American tour starting tonight at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The tour will take the Company to major cities including Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, and will culminate at the Prudential Hall of the New Jersey Performing in Newark on May 8th.
