Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to New York City Center from December 1, 2010 – January 2, 2011 with exciting performances that have become a joyous holiday tradition. Led by the renowned Judith Jamison in her final year as Artistic Director, and joined by Artistic Director Designate Robert Battle, Ailey’s extraordinary artists will move audiences with their brilliant artistry and passionate spirit in a series of 9 premieres and new productions, repertory favorites, special programs and performances celebrating Revelations at 50.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg will present Judith Jamison with The NYC Handel Medallion, the highest official honor given by the City of New York, on Monday, November 8th. Established in 1959 by Mayor Robert F. Wagner, recipients are selected for their outstanding contributions to the city’s intellectual and cultural life.
Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Judith Jamison has been named the 2010-2011 Ambassador to the Arts award winner by Guide for the Arts. Jamison is being honored for her 45 years of dedication and contributions to the Arts community.
