Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater And BAM Announce June 5—8 Program

February 6, 2025/Brooklyn, NY— The company that shattered every boundary of American dance returns to Brooklyn with another unforgettable spring program that includes a world premiere from renowned choreographer Jawole Willa Jo Zollar in collaboration with Samantha Figgins and Chalvar Monteiro. Zollar recently completed 40 years at the helm of Urban Bush Women, and is AILEY's 2025 Artist in Residence. Also featured is Elisa Monte’s Treading, a mesmerizing duet set to music by Steve Reich, Ronald K. Brown’s Grace, a spellbinding dance journey to the promised land, and Alvin Ailey’s visceral classic Revelations. NEW YORK – January 23, 2025 – After a much-anticipated winter season in New York City, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater—beloved as one of the world’s most popular dance companies—will continue its 2024-2025 season celebrating the life and legacy of Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison with an 18-city United States tour starting January 31 in Cleveland and continuing coast-to-coast to cities including Atlanta; Washington, D.C.; Boston; Chicago; and Los Angeles; before culminating with a Mother’s Day performance in Newark on May 11. The passionate spirit and extraordinary technique of AILEY’s dancers will be showcased in a diverse repertory of new works, repertory favorites, and AILEY classics, including Alvin Ailey’s must-see masterpiece Revelations.

ATLANTA – updated January 14, 2025 – Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of the world’s most popular dance companies and America’s cultural ambassador to the world, returns to the Fox Theatre, February 12-16 for six exciting performances during a season celebrating Legacy in Motion and the life of beloved Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison (1943 – 2024). The 2025 Atlanta engagement will feature season world premieres by choreographers for whom Alvin Ailey paved the way - Sacred Songs by Interim Artistic Director Matthew Rushing, Finding Free by Hope Boykin, Many Angels by Lar Lubovitch, and Al-Andalus Blues by Jamar Roberts. (NEW YORK) November 21, 2024 – The Board of Trustees of Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation today announced that Alicia Graf Mack, widely celebrated for her dance artistry during her years with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and for her leadership as the Dean and Director of the Dance Division of The Juilliard School, has been appointed Artistic Director of AILEY. She becomes the fourth Artistic Director in AILEY’s 66-year history, following Alvin Ailey, Judith Jamison (herself a renowned star of the Company), and Robert Battle. Ms. Graf Mack will assume her role with AILEY as of July 1, 2025.

NEW YORK – February 29, 2024 – The compelling story of the life, work, and legacy of dancer and choreographer Alvin Ailey, founder of the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, is the subject of Portrait of Ailey, a new eight-part documentary series premiering in February 2024, during Black History Month, and rolling out through September on PBS LearningMedia, a free website with thousands of classroom-ready resources for preK-12 teachers. The series was created by Sylvia Waters, director emerita of the Ailey II company, with archivist Dominique Singer and adapted for use on PBS LearningMedia by The WNET Group’s Kids’ Media & Education team. Portrait of Ailey uses rare historical film and still images as well as contemporary footage to create a sweeping narrative of Mr. Ailey as a performer, choreographer, celebrity, teacher, social activist, arts advocate, and creator of an enduring institution that is currently celebrating its 65th anniversary.
