In this uncertain time, dancers have a useful perspective: Gently loosen those joints and muscles as much as you can, firm your self-discipline, calm your mind. Dancer wisdom teaches us that life is live theater, forever an improv performance, and we can feel our way through it by establishing a routine, caring for our whole selves and also turning outward, to care for those around us. Yet performing careers are brief, and no dancer can afford to lose time — or money. The recently interrupted tours, canceled premieres, locked studios and social distancing requirements have hit the financially fragile, socially enmeshed dance world hard. When your life revolves around lifting, leaping, catching, jumping and otherwise spending time (often literally joined at the hip) with your dance partners, how do you deal with solitary confinement?

Last week after Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater abruptly ended its tour and sent its dancers home, Danica Paulos — who creates content on Instagram for the group — asked her fellow company members if they were, she said, “down to create some positivity and some inspiration.”

Voice Of OC - After Living Her Dream, Dancer Danica Paulos Plans To Photograph The World

As a young girl growing up in Huntington Beach, Danica Paulos pursued two passions: dance and photography. She never dreamed at the time that she would excel in both before she even turned 20. Paulos, now 26, will perform with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in Los Angeles later this month. One of America’s pre-eminent dance troupes, it has been her home since shortly after she graduated from high school and this season will be her last with the company.

Renaldo Maurice is thrilled to be returning to Chicago with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. "My spirit is really happy and full of joy," said Maurice, who will be seeing family members and friends during his visit. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will perform through March 8 at The Auditorium Theatre. Maurice, a Gary native, has been dancing with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for more than eight seasons. He said he took last year off to do a variety of other projects.

Her journey began as a 5-year-old at Pat Hall's Dance Unlimited off Independence Boulevard, where she took everything from ballet to tap to jazz to gymnastics. Stamatiou returns next week with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at Belk Theater on Feb. 25-26 - 7:30p.m. curtain.

WTTW - Homecoming Dance: Tour Brings Alvin Ailey Dancer Back To Chicago

Since 1958, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has earned a reputation for passionate performance and innovation. The company’s mission is to “use the beauty and humanity of African-American heritage – and other cultures – to unite all people.” When the group performs at the Auditorium Theatre this week, it will be a homecoming for Chicago native Solomon Dumas. He’s one of 32 dancers in the national touring company. Dumas was just 13 years old when he first saw the acclaimed group at the Auditorium Theatre. A year earlier, he trained at AileyCamp Chicago, a summer day camp program for at-risk kids in 10 cities across the United States.

Judith Jamison is one of the most accomplished modern dancers and choreographers of all time. After joining the @Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1965, she achieved international fame and went on to earn the Kennedy Center Honor and a National Medal of Arts. Although she is now the Artistic Director Emerita at Alvin Ailey, to up and coming Ailey dancers like Khalia Campbell, she is simply Ms. Jamison. WFAE Charlotte - Northwest School Of The Arts Alum Returns With Alvin Ailey Dance Troupe

The world-renowned, New York-based Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater troupe was on stage Wednesday night at the Belk Theater for the second night of a two-night run. Performing with the modern dance company is Charlottean Constance Stamatiou. She has performed at the White House and been a guest performer on the "Today Show," "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Dancing with the Stars."

My first introduction to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater nearly a decade ago was an experience I'll never forget. Even though I knew the rich history of the company and Ailey dating back to 1958, but that knowledge didn't fully prepare me for the powerful impact of the live AAADT performance. Let's just say it was an immense spiritual journey that billowed from the dancers onstage to the audience in TPAC's Jackson Hall.
