Ailey Extension Bounces Into Back-To-School Mode With Lively New Classes And Workshops For Kids And Adults

(New York) September 6, 2019 – As the nation enters back-to-school mode, Ailey Extension welcomes students of all ages and experience levels to fall into fitness at its lively new classes and workshops. Ailey Extension is excited to introduce two new weekly classes taught by renowned instructors Danielle Lima, one of the foremost samba teachers in the USA; and Joan Peters, one of the original Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater company members and master teacher of the Dunham technique. Ailey Extension will also offer an additional Beginner Ballet class taught by American Ballet Theatre Certified Teacher Anna Lederfeind.

(New York) May 22, 2019 – This June, Ailey Extension invites New Yorkers to celebrate dance onstage and off when NYC Dance Week returns Thursday, June 13 through Saturday, June 22, coinciding with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Lincoln Center engagement June 12-16, 2019. Throughout the annual citywide festival, Ailey Extension will offer over 25 free* dance and fitness classes for adults of all experience levels at The Joan Weill Center for Dance – New York’s largest building dedicated to dance and the official home of Ailey. As a bonus, the entire family can come together on the dance floor during NYC Dance Week for a lively celebration of music, dance, and oral traditions with a free West African Family class with Maguette Camara on Friday, June 14 at 6:30pm.

During American Heart Month, join us on the dance floor to improve cardiovascular health and lower the risk for developing heart disease with Ailey Extension’s Class of the Week, a one-time-only discounted class that will be announced each Monday during the month of February. In collaboration with the NYC Parks, Ailey Extension brings dance to public parks in Brooklyn and the Bronx from June 5-July 14, offering eight technique and choreography workshops, including events dedicated to Alvin Ailey’s acclaimed masterpiece Revelations. To celebrate NYC Dance Week, a citywide festival from June 14-23, Ailey Extension welcomes new students* to try over 30 free classes at The Ailey Studios in Manhattan, New York City’s largest building dedicated to dance.

This popular eight-week workshop series – beginning on Saturday, April 21 and culminating with on stage performances – combines folkloric dance styles and live accompaniment native to Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East into a “life-affirming celebration” (W42St magazine).
