New York – November 10, 2020 – This holiday season, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will further a cherished legacy of uplifting and uniting audiences across the globe with a free virtual engagement celebrating six decades of Revelations, thanks to the generous support of Bank of America. Extending from December 2 – 31, 2020, the season will feature a variety of special programs each available online for a one-week period and open to all. Ailey’s extraordinary dancers will elevate a legacy of innovation and excellence in artistry with a reimagined season featuring premieres by Ailey’s Resident Choreographer Jamar Roberts; and Associate Artistic Director Matthew Rushing, in partnership with Company member and Assistant to the Rehearsal Director Clifton Brown, and former Company member Yusha-Marie Sorzano; a variety of other special programs; and a series of BattleTalk conversations, moderated by Artistic Director Robert Battle.

Ailey Extension Dances Into 2020 With Special Workshops To Help New Yorkers Reach Their New Year's Resolutions

(New York) January 8, 2019 – This January, Ailey Extension is helping New Yorkers dance into 2020 and reach their New Year’s resolutions with workshops designed to help people get moving as they tap into new skills and experiment with different approaches to dance. Students of all experience levels are welcome to learn about and explore Ailey’s genius as a choreographer during a Celebrating Alvin Ailey workshop with Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison; practice confidence at an Absolute Beginner Heels workshop with celebrity dancer Jessica Castro; learn the fundamentals and flavor of Salsa from two-time world salsa champion Bruno Alexander Rodriguez; experience the richness and diversity of West African dance and drum in a day of classes at the West African Celebration with recognized choreographer Maguette Camara & Friends; or make dance a fun family affair at the West African Family Day workshop with The Ailey School instructor Imani Faye. Masazumi Chaya, Beloved Mainstay Of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Celebrated With Special Performance During His Final New York City Center Season As Associate Artistic Director

NEW YORK, NY – November 25, 2019 – Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater announces programming for a historic night at Ailey celebrating Associate Artistic Director Masazumi Chaya on Sunday, December 22nd at 7:30pm at New York City Center. Previously, Robert Battle, Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, shared the news that the Company’s beloved mainstay for nearly five decades, Mr. Chaya, intends to retire on January 5, 2020, at the conclusion of the Company’s New York City Center season. Having joined the Company in 1972 as a dancer, Mr. Chaya performed under Mr. Ailey’s direction for 15 years, subsequently assumed responsibility for rehearsing the Company—a role for which Mr. Ailey had cultivated him—and for more than 28 years, as Associate Artistic Director, has maintained the repertoire, handled innumerable creative decisions, and guided generations of the Company’s dancers.

Ailey Extension Reveals Workshops Related To Ailey's New York City Center Season, New Classes, And Holiday Promotions

(New York) November 5, 2019 – Boost your dance skills at Ailey Extension this November with specialized workshops and new classes led by Ailey’s extended family of movement experts. Dancers of all experience levels will have several chances throughout the month to train with the esteemed choreographers and trainers helping Ailey dancers prepare for the upcoming holiday season engagement at New York City Center. This month’s workshops allow dancers to receive hands-on modern dance coaching with Ailey Rehearsal Director Matthew Rushing; learn a spiritually refreshing mix of modern and African dance from celebrated Choreographer Ronald K. Brown, whose work remains part of Ailey’s current repertory; and build endurance fit for a dancer with Master Trainer Steven Lopez, who trains his Ailey dancer wife Constance Stamatiou between performance seasons. NEW YORK – UPDATED October 24, 2019 — Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Center’s Principal Dance Company, returns to the theater’s stage from December 4, 2019 – January 5, 2020. Artistic Director Robert Battle leads Ailey’s 32 extraordinary dancers during this annual five-week engagement, which has become a joyous holiday tradition. The repertory features more than two dozen diverse works by some of the world’s preeminent choreographers, including world premieres by Donald Byrd and Ailey dancer and newly announced Resident Choreographer Jamar Roberts, company premieres by Aszure Barton and Camille A. Brown, and new productions by Judith Jamison and Lar Lubovitch.

Ailey Extension Offers Special Opportunities This Fall To Train With Celebrated Dancers And Take The Stage At The Ailey Citigroup Theater

(New York) October 7, 2019 – This October Ailey Extension offers a wealth of opportunities for dancers of all ages to learn moves from internationally-acclaimed dance icons and veterans of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Pose on FX’s Dashaun Wesley, will teach every element of vogue in a workshop focused on the culturally rich and highly stylized history and fundamentals of this alluring technique. Veteran Ailey dancer Vernard Gilmore will lead multiple Rommett Floor Barre® workshops allowing dancers to correct alignment and understand their energy. New and seasoned dancers alike will have the exciting chance to dance in a Contemporary workshop taught by Ailey’s Jamar Roberts, before he makes his premiere as Ailey’s first-ever resident choreographer. Students can take part in an exciting new collaboration project between famed Afro Latin Artist/Choreographer Sekou Miller and Senegalese Experimental Sabar Innovator Babacar Top during a lively Afro Fusions Masterclass combining African modern dance with traditional and social dances from West Africa, the Caribbean and the US. Dancers of all experience levels can learn the basics of vogue from Cesar Valentino - an icon of New York City’s famed Ballroom Vogue scene - and put their moves to the test on the runway during a Halloween- themed Vogue Workshop/Mini Ball. NEW YORK – September 5, 2019 — The Ailey School, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, was selected to perform in the 2019 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®. Over 100 students from all programs of The Ailey School will answer the call of “Let’s Have a ParadeTM,” the iconic phrase that has signaled the start of every Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade since 1924. Led by The Ailey School Co-Director Tracy Inman, the dancers from age seven to 25 will perform a dance inspired by the “Rocka My Soul” finale of Alvin Ailey’s American masterpiece Revelations.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Celebrates Groundbreaking Founder During 60th Anniversary North American Tour February 1 - May 12, 2019

UPDATED January 31, 2019 (NEW YORK CITY) After an acclaimed five-week holiday season in New York, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will continue its Ailey Ascending 60th Anniversary celebration during a North American tour which kicks off during Black History Month with a February 1st opening in Toronto. On February 5th, a weeklong engagement at The Kennedy Center launches with the 20th Annual Washington, D.C. Gala Benefit to support Ailey's D.C. programs, including the creation of new works, arts-in-education activities, and scholarships to talented young area dancers to attend The Ailey School in New York. Other stops on the 21-city tour include Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Boston, culminating with a Mother’s Day performance in Newark on May 12th.
